
A number of studies have suggested that further research is needed into whether diets rich in polyphenols may lead to a reduced risk of a number of types of cancer. Other studies have noted that antioxidant compounds identical to those isolated from cocoa have arrested the cell cycle in breast cancer. However, since the mechanism is not yet fully understood, further studies are needed before any conclusions can be drawn about the anticancer effects of cocoa and chocolate.
